This document deals with the construction of a device for interfacing sensor systems to a computer through the USB port. We need a means of capturing data from sensors which can be easily used to control a our synthesis engines and musical systems. The interface described in this document gives us such a means. It is designed to be easily accessed on any operating system and from a large number of software applications without the need to write any drivers or additional software. The heart of this system is the ATMEL ATmega16 microprocessor. The ATmega16 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture.
