An Optical Oxygen Sensor for Environmental Monitoring Oxygen sensors are used in many types of applications ranging from personal security in an industrial environment to the measurement of dissolved oxygen in all types of hydrologic environments. Most of the times an electrochemical Clark type of sensor is used, making it necessary to stir the medium in which oxygen has to be measured. Clark type sensors have to be calibrated often and are not very suitable for applications which demand low electrical powers as in modern groundwater level and temperature monitoring instruments.
